Tip 133: Occlusion Mode Management/ADVANTEC® LEGACY® System
The ADVANTEC® LEGACY® system
permits automated power modulation to occur upon achievement of either
90% ("pre-occlusion" mode) or 100% ("occlusion" mode)
of the maximum vacuum setting.
At these vacuum levels, near-total or total tip occlusion
is present and thus reduced US power application is generally required
to accomplish lens removal because the attained vacuum level will assist
in the process. The system can be pre-programmed to create lower power
emissions or, my favorite, brief intermittent US pulses ("short pulse")
under these conditions.
The use of the Pre-Occlusion Mode permits the nucleus
to be removed more efficiently (less US required) and safely (reduced
risk of thermal injury during tip occlusion).
