Phaco Tip 129:
ADVANTEC^® System: Ultra MAXVAC^®

The ADVANTEC^® Alcon LEGACY^® system permits the surgeon to set a maximum vacuum level of "greater than 500 mm Hg" ("500+" on the LEGACY screen). With this vacuum setting, the pump will continue to run regardless of the vacuum level achieved.

The use of Ultra MAXVAC^® will permit nuclei of grade I or II density to be aspirated without the use of any ultrasonic energy. There are 2 strict requirements, however.

1. The "greater than 500 mm Hg" setting should only be used with the 1.1 FLARED tip and a relatively tight incision (I prefer the angulated Mackool* 1.1 ABS^® FLARED tip and a 2.75 mm incision).
   
   
2. The infusion bottle height (drip chamber to eye level) should be at least 110 cm.
