VISCOAT® Viscosurgical Device has three
negative charges per polymeric unit, two negative charges from its chondroitin
sulfate, and one from its sodium hyaluronate chain, while those of straight
or conventional HA viscoelastics have only one.
| |
|
VISCOAT® has three negative charges (highlighted)
that help it bind to the positively charged surface of the corneal
endothelium. |
 |
Conventional or other HA products have only one
negative charge (highlighted), so they don't bind as well to endothelial
cells. This weak binding facilitates removal. |
VISCOAT® Ophthalmic Viscosurgical Device
provides the greatest amount of viscoelastic material adjacent to the
corneal endothelium.6

"Dispersive behavior and
negative charge would rank ahead of hyaluronic acid binding
sites in the quantitive importance of the various factors that
determine retention of viscoelastic on the endothelial cell
surface." |
