"It was so easy. It was just a series of eye drops maybe three days before and on the day of the surgery. I was in and out in two hours."
Richard was having trouble reading. No matter how far away or how closely he held a book or newspaper, his eyes couldn't focus in a satisfactory manner. His eye doctor told him he had cataracts and that they were ready to come out. After a few tests at the doctor's office, his doctor explained his options to him. "The doctor said that there are two primary kinds of lenses. With one, I would still have to have reading glasses to read. And with the other I wouldn't.*
"I read a lot. And that was one of the things that was important to me-the ability to read." Richard chose the multifocal lens. "And guess what? I don't need glasses to read. Nor do I need glasses to see far away.
"The surgery itself took about 10 minutes, I think. I had to wear dark glasses home from the surgery. By the time I had the second eye done, the first eye was just about perfect."
Richard's wife was surprised at how easy the surgery turned out to be. "I know medicine has come a long way, but I was surprised at what an easy procedure it really was."
*Richard received the AcrySof® ReSTOR® multifocal lens. In FDA trials, four out of five patients who received the AcrySof® ReSTOR® multifocal lens in both eyes reported never needing to wear glasses.
