"I went in for a new pair of glasses and instead, got a new pair of eyes."
Betty Ann's most annoying cataract symptoms presented when she used the computer at work. "I would prop my computer up and sit as high as I could, but it just didn't work-I just had a problem seeing." Even with her glasses on, she had to sit very close to the computer screen to see.
Betty Ann opted to have cataract surgery and to have a multifocal lens implanted in each eye*. She was surprised at how easy the recovery process was. "The morning after the second surgery, I was bad-I took the patch off my eye and drove myself to the doctor**. I was like a six year old child who had just learned to read-I was reading every sign that I couldn't see before. It was wonderful! I was so hyped up by the time I got to [the doctor's office]."
"It's a freeing thing-to go swimming in the ocean. To go fishing-I can take the fish hook off. It has affected my life personally in every way you can imagine. I never expected to be able to see everything like I do. Without glasses. I don't even have any... They're just like new eyes.
"It's a shame to go through life not being able to see well when this is available. The news has got to get out."
* Betty Ann had AcrySof® ReSTOR® multifocal lenses implanted in both eyes. In FDA trials, four out of five patients who received the AcrySof® ReSTOR® multifocal lens in both eyes reported never needing to wear glasses.
